Most of the Foundation’s fundraising takes place through the generous spirit and contribution of volunteers who help host events, or participate in races such as the NY City Marathon to help raise funds to support our goals. We could not be here without them! The Foundation’s first $100,000 was raised through the valiant efforts of Chris Buccini and Karim Zahmoul in racing the 2005 New York City Marathon.

The Caterina Marcus Foundation is a recognized charity of the Morgan Stanley Annual Appeal. Thanks to the amazing generosity of our friends and employees at Morgan Stanley we have been able to raise over $50,000 from 2006-2008.

November 2009

In our biggest fundraising effort to date, a team of 26 runners will join us to help support our cause by running in the 2009 ING NYC Marathon! 2009 is a very special year as Caterina is celebrating her 5th year transplant anniversary. These runners will join us in celebrating her life and spreading our message. We are deeply grateful to the following individuals for undertaking this incredible effort:

We are incredibly blessed to have such a diverse and far-reaching team, with runners from the Dominican Republic, England, and various states in the US. This not only will further our fund-raising efforts, but also help to raise much needed awareness of these diseases.

November 2007

On November 4, 2007, the Foundation was able to raise an additional $40,000 thanks to the incredible efforts of Ligia Bonetti de Valiente (Caterina’s aunt), Jose Miguel Bonetti (Caterina’s uncle) and Lil Esteva. Ligia, Miguel and Lil ran their first Marathon ever to help raise funds for our Foundation and also for Caminantes por La Vida, a charity in the Dominican Republic which helps raise funds towards women’s and pediatric cancers.  We are humbled by their efforts and thank them for their extraordinary support!

November 2006

On November 5, 2006, Caterina’s aunt, Mati Bonetti Buccini, along with Caterina’s physical therapist, Linda Miller, ran their first Marathon - the ING NYC Marathon. They ran in honor of Caterina, helping the Foundation raise over $100,000. It was an unbelievable feat on their part, and the effort allowed the Foundation to continue its annual fundraising goals. We are eternally grateful for their love and support!

April 2006

In April 2006, New York University’s Stern School of Business held its annual Spring Fling. With the help of Caterina’s aunt, María Elena Pastoriza, a current student at Stern, a silent auction was included at the event, which helped raise $16,000 for the Foundation. We deeply appreciate María Elena’s commitment to our cause, as well as the support of Stern’s student body.
